Jazz at the Philanthropy with Billy Townes and Tony Mac
On Saturday, September 13th, at the Plaza Theater’s beautiful Philanthropy Theater, Jazz El Paso was pleased to present Billy Townes in concert with special guest vocalist, Tony Mac to a sold out crowd!
As always, Billy had the audience from the first tune. His performance on the key board was sparkling and brilliant.
Backing him up was a collection of El Paso’s top musicians. Blazing away on trumpet was El Paso’s own Marty Olivas. Wailing on sax was Dan Borton. Marty and Dan both wowed the audience with super solo’s. Laying down the heavy bass line was Jim Foster. Giving a stellar performance on electric guitar was Steve Marquez. Backing it all up with super hot “sis-boom-bang”, was Demetrius Williams on drums. Special Guest for this performance was Tony Mac from Houston, TX. Listening to Tony is like watching a re-incarnated Marvin Gaye. Tony’s vocal range is amazing and he really brought to life r&b tunes like “What’s Goin’ On”? And “Let’s Get It On”. Tony did an awesome rendition of “The Secret Garden”, a Quincy Jones tune. Tony’s back up singer, the very lovely and talented Diana Sanchez, helped to make this rendition almost too hot for public display. Tony is a great showman with terrific stage presence. His performance of the old Motown tune “On Broadway” was truly great. The end of the performance had the entire audience on its feet shouting for more. Great show, and top shelf performers! It doesn’t get any better that that.
